Tony Pulford Employee Spotlight Richardson Is

Meet Tony, Plant Manager for our oat processing facility in South Sioux City, Nebraska and this week’s Richardson Is employee spotlight.

Tony has been with Richardson for 19 years and he is primarily responsible for supporting his team in safety, food quality and operations. He looks for ways to help make our processes more efficient and helps lead capital investment projects at the location.

Our facility in South Sioux City offers a full range of oat ingredients, including bulk oats, oat groats and toasted coated grains. The South Sioux City facility is Richardson’s only oat mill where we create a variety of oat clusters with added ingredients. We work with our customers to create these products to suit their needs.

What do you like most about your role with Richardson?

My favourite part is being able to interact with the employees daily at the plant. My time in South Sioux City has given me many opportunities to learn about this business and I enjoy sharing it with others. I also enjoy the many challenges that come my way with each new role I take on.

What’s different about your role with Richardson?

Unlike our other milling facilities, in South Sioux City we have three ovens where we make coated grains with oat flakes. We add in many other ingredients like flavouring, fruit, nuts, honey and maple syrup to granola and clusters. As you can imagine, the plant smells pretty great!

Richardson is a great place to work. I’m proud to say I’m part of such an awesome team in South Sioux City.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

I love spending time with my family and friends. My wife and I own an acreage named Lazy TP Ranch. This may seem like an odd name, but it’s fitting because there’s always something that needs to be done around the ranch and we don’t get much lazy time.

Our biggest hobby is spending time with our five horses. We enjoy trail riding and my wife, Patty, is into cowboy mounted shooting, which involves shooting targets with a single action revolver while running a course on horseback. I recently signed up and will start competing next month. I’m pretty excited to share in the fun with her!
