#RichardsonIs is a new campaign that we are launching to introduce you to some of the great people who work for our company.

This week, #RichardsonIs…Phil, Senior Director of our Vancouver terminal. This summer will mark Phil’s 34th year with the company.

“Working alongside my management team to drive continuous improvements to our operations is what I like best about my work.”

We asked Phil why he would recommend a career in agriculture. Based on his experience at Richardson, Phil said agriculture provides ongoing opportunities to learn, grow, and be challenged. His impressive career path is a testament to that statement. During his 34 years with the company, Phil has had the opportunity to wear many hats and explore wide-ranging roles including: quality assurance, fertilizer, our retail home and garden stores (no longer part of our portfolio), country operations, manufacturing/oil processing, and now, port terminal operations.

As Senior Director, Phil’s role is to oversee all activities taking place at the Vancouver terminal, such as operations, environmental health and safety, and maintenance/capital investments. He also represents Richardson on various committees with the Port of Vancouver, the federal, provincial and municipal governments, as well as several port association groups.

Phil, with Mayor of North Vancouver Darrell Mussatto, at the Foot of Lonsdale cheque presentation. Richardson donated $400,000 to the City of North Vancouver last fall to support its waterfront revitalization project.

While it’s evident through his passion and commitment to his work that Phil loves what he does, he also takes great pleasure in fly-fishing, which he’s experienced throughout Canada and the U.S., and spending time with his wife of 38 years, Janice, and their two sons, Ian and Evan.

Curious to see where Phil spends his days? Watch this time-lapse video we created to document the terminal expansion project that was completed last spring.
