#RichardsonIs is a new campaign that we are launching to introduce you to some of the great people who work for our company.

This week, #RichardsonIs…Trudy, a grain merchant at our Hamilton, Ontario port terminal. Trudy reached her 25-year milestone with Richardson last year.

Trudy, at our port terminal in Hamilton, Ontario.

Trudy is part of a team of grain merchants in Hamilton who buy and sell grain, corn, soybeans and wheat from farmers throughout Ontario. The crops they’ve purchased get delivered to either the Hamilton terminal where they are then shipped out by vessels to our Sorel terminal or overseas, or they are transported by truck to customers in Ontario, New York and Michigan.

“There are so many different aspects to a career in agriculture, and my job is a great example of that. While it’s predominantly grain marketing, my day-to-day tasks involve communicating with our operations, logistics, credit and accounting departments. No day is the same, which has kept me interested in my work for the past 26 years – and the fact that my customers and co-workers are so great.”

“In this industry, you can count on every new year bringing new challenges, and that’s what keeps this work so interesting. Although things are constantly changing and competition continues to increase, agriculture is a very stable career, and I would recommend it to anyone.”

Outside of work, much of Trudy’s time is spent outside tending to her garden. She also spends a lot of her time in hockey arenas with her husband John, watching their kids play.
