#RichardsonIs introduces you to some of the great people who work for our company and showcases the diversity of career options in agriculture.

This week, #RichardsonIs…Orland, Farm Manager of Bennett Farm, our research and demonstration farm conveniently located in Richardson, SK.

Orland leading a field tour at Bennett Farm.

His Role: Orland’s role is to oversee the day-to-day operations of Bennett Farm. He is responsible for collecting information on new grain varieties, fertilizers and chemicals that protect or enhance crops and then share that insight and information with our growers. Orland has access to new farm technology and gets to use the latest tractors, combines, seeders and storage equipment to grow, harvest and store his crops. Once all the crops are off the field, he gathers all the information he has and shares his insights and data on the RichardsonResults.ca website to show growers and suppliers how the crops performed under certain conditions and which products were the top performers that year on the farm.

Favourite Part of the Job: “I love sharing the farm life experience with children. We get to host educational ag events here from time to time and I love seeing the kids’ eyes widen when we show them the farm equipment and answer their questions about farming.”

Why Orland Recommends a Career in Agriculture: “Agriculture is so diverse and is constantly coming out with new technology and different practices- there really is something for everyone. It also gives you a great sense of pride, knowing you have a part in helping feed the world by working with our land and resources.”

Out of Office: When Orland isn’t busy seeding, spraying, harvesting or collecting crop data, he likes to spend his time teaching fitness alongside his wife, Treena, who owns her own fitness training business. Orland also enjoys spending time on ice refereeing hockey and traveling to hot destinations.

Did You Know? Bennett Farm is Richardson’s second research and demonstration farm. This new 440-acre farm in Saskatchewan gives Richardson the opportunity to grow and test crops in a new geography, including crops not grown at Kelburn Farm in Manitoba – namely peas and durum.
