#RichardsonIs introduces you to some of the great people who work for our company and showcases the diversity of career options in agriculture.

This week, #RichardsonIs…Shanell, Communications Coordinator in Richardson’s Corporate Communications department in Winnipeg, MB.

Shanell, at Richardson’s head office in Winnipeg.

Her Role: Shanell’s role is to provide communications support to various Richardson departments such as Human Resources, Environment, Health & Safety, and Management Information Services. Shanell is also the primary communications contact for Richardson Pioneer and their marketing needs. She writes articles for Richardson’s employee and grower customers newsletters, Connections and Reporter, and manages the company photo library as well as our annual Take Your Best Shot photo contest.

Favourite Part of the Job: “It’s never the same thing every day. I love that I’m able to learn more and more about agriculture within my day-to-day work, considering my education background is in communications and not agriculture. I’ve learned so much over the last two and a half years because of all the hands-on experiences I’ve been able to take part in with this company so far.”

Why Shanell Recommends a Career in Agriculture: “Agriculture is such an important industry across the Prairies. There are so many opportunities in ag, even for people like me who were born and raised in the city. Richardson has been so helpful when it comes to teaching me about this industry.”

Out of office: Outside of working hours, Shanell is a member of the Winnipeg Roller Derby League and plays on the Backseat Betties home team, as well as the Bombshell Brawlers travel team. Shanell enjoys being part of the derby league because it’s a great workout and assures us it’s nothing like the roller derby you may recall from the 1970s! She also hosts an indie/rock music radio show, Only Cowards Sing at Night, with a friend on CKUW 95.9 FM, the University of Winnipeg campus radio station.
