#RichardsonIs introduces you to some of the great people who work for our company and showcases the diversity of career options in agriculture.

This week, #RichardsonIs…Nadia, Director, Quality Assurance & Food Safety. This January, Nadia will be reaching a 10-year career milestone working in QA at Richardson’s head office.

Nadia, in the QA lab in our downtown Winnipeg office.

Her role: Nadia leads the Quality Assurance team in Winnipeg. Their role is to assess and report on the quality of the crop to the merchandising team every harvest to ensure Richardson is providing the right quality to our customers through the balance of the crop year. Not only do they grade the grain, they also assess intrinsic factors such as what (if any) diseases/toxins are affecting the grain, how the malt barley is germinating and oil and protein levels on soybeans. Quality is of utmost importance for the QA team, which follows strict international food safety guidelines to ensure the grain they are supplying is safe for everyone to eat. Throughout the crop year, they assess grain being transported by truck, rail or vessel to ensure supply is consistent with the quality and functionality that our domestic and international customers have come to expect.

Favorite Part of the Job: “What I like best about my work is that I’m presented with different challenges every day and no two days are alike. I also truly love working with my team as well as the staff at our terminals and elevators.”

Why Nadia Recommends a Career in Ag: “The agriculture industry is more diverse than ever.  Whether you are in merchandising, quality assurance, HR, agronomy, accounting- there really is something for everyone. In my experience, the down-to-earth nature of those who work in this sector has been a positive experience. As the world population increases, so the does the need to feed the world, and I like that I get to play even a small role in that.”

Out of Office: When Nadia isn’t in the lab grading grain, she can be found spending time with her husband and their son, Noah. They are big Winnipeg Jets fans who love to travel whenever they can – particularly to warm destinations as both of their families have Caribbean roots.
