#RichardsonIs is a new campaign that we are launching to introduce you to some of the great people who work for our company.

This week, #RichardsonIs…Ian, Plant Manager at our oat milling facility in Portage la Prairie, MB.

Richardson’s oat mill in Portage is where raw oats grown by local Manitoba farmers are turned into ingredients like oatmeal, which is then sold to food product manufacturers. As Plant Manager, Ian not only oversees the overall operations of the facility, but also ensures that all of the ingredients produced at the plant meet strict food safety and quality standards.

“There are many challenges in an operation that runs 24/7, such as issues with equipment, production, and quality, but that’s what keeps you engaged to efficiently resolve and constantly improve.”

Having always had an interest in the relationship between food and health, a career in agriculture was a natural fit for Ian. He’s been part of the Richardson team for four years now, and says that having the opportunity to make improvements in the process, the products, and his work environment is what he likes best about his job.

Despite the fact that the Portage facility operates around the clock, Ian still manages to spend time doing what he truly loves; whether that’s spending time outdoors with his family, taking his motorcycle out on the open prairie roads, or fitting in a game of golf.

Fun fact about our oat mill in Portage la Prairie: it has the processing ability to manufacture in excess of 350 tonnes of oats per day. That amounts to approximately 8 million individual servings of oatmeal per day!
